Art as Investment

Now that the Chinese have discovered the art market as a way to invest their money, the global art business has grown exponentially, reaching estimated sales of €43 billion in 2012. “In the top price segment, art functions as an investment. The rich want to protect their assets,” American collector and author Ethan Wagner (“Collecting Art for Love, Money and More”) said in an interview.
There is no better place to do this than in Switzerland, where, unlike in Germany, exported art is exempt from value-add tax. This is one of the reasons Art Basel has become a global hub for art and home to its most important fair. Sam Keller, director of Fondation Beyeler, a Basel museum, is also stunned by the development. “Artists now attract the same attention as rock stars used to get,” says Keller, who headed Art Basel for a long time. But he also sees nothing wrong with the global elite’s choosing to spend their money on art.Albeit it is widely acknowledged that many of these artworks promptly disappear into art warehouses. One of the world’s most valuable art treasures is being stored in an extremely ugly place, a six-story concrete building known as the Geneva free port. Instead of windows, much of the façade of this giant safe for the world’s wealthy is covered with gray panels. A movement what is fairly new and should be questioned if the Artist is happy with his artwork which houses now in a place like described, basically not to be seen miserable in a grey not sexy place, to be forgotten?,..Gives me time to dream away and invent a safe warehouse more like a get together for art collectors and extremely rich to show off their latest buys while having a drink in a nicely designed super safe house! A place safe to show your treasures as jewellery , photos , paintings and anything else which is from value enough to be stored in a safe house. Why not enjoy our so well collected treasures instead of hiding it ? Maybe the ¨safe house¨- cq warehouse- will be the newest stock market, we go back to the floor , see, talk ,buy , and leave it there to be sold to the next for a higher bid. From private clubs to private stock markets…..there is always an opportunity everywhere and always!

Lets be friends, call me

Lets be friends, call me

A clear message on Linkedln, is it true we get tired of other peoples perfect second life on Facebook ? Or maybe put it differently are we not tired of ourselves talking to Facebook in our minds, ¨what shall I post to be cool funny or respected¨, or ¨how can I get this message over which I don’t dare to say straight into that persons face¨. Who are we on Facebook ? People we want to be, people we always dreamed of being, photoshopped perfect perfection dripping of your timeline? Are we with excitement opening our application to get your so wanted confirmation of you being the coolest hippest best? Does the bar raises higher and higher on the Likes you have, is this satisfaction point never to be reached? Is that precisely what Facebook is all about, the discontentment which lives in you, needs to be filled up, by your invented self via others to find approvement of your being. Is your true self losing it from the mirror which doesn’t reflect back?

Can we still be justified by saying ¨but I am on it for business¨, are we still taken seriously if we try to reach our work related audience, our old and new clients or will we be swamped or even drowned in stories about how the cat killed the dog of the neighbour.

I miss the stories of my cousin in America, I need to call her, I hardly do,.¨A like¨ or a simple comment was easy and gave me an instant satisfaction of being connected.

I now properly have to catch up with friends because I have no clue what they are doing without surfing their timelines. So I invest again in relationships , -I ask , you reply and we communicate-.I lIke!

So why I am not on it anymore, first read my blog about Big Data , second- I like to talk to you on the phone , hear your voice , intonations, challenge you on your deeper thoughts, your opinion without you thinking what person a,b,c will think of your ¨openly¨and there for maybe shallow put down ¨over¨thought opinion or answer, I like people who value their identity and experience their identity as satisfactory or sufficient enough!
